Victoria the Education State – FREE TAFE Courses!
With $172 million going towards education funding, the Victorian Government reveals its aim to fill the state’s skills shortage with almost 50 free TAFE and Pre-Apprenticeship courses in the 2018 Victorian State Budget.
What are the free TAFE courses in Victoria?
Here is a list of all the free TAFE courses:
Following consultation, the Government plans to make further announcements to confirm an additional 10 priority courses to accompany these free TAFE courses Victoria.
List of Free Pre-Apprenticeship Courses
The initiative will see that 30 TAFE courses and 18 pre-apprenticeship courses will be offered to students completely free of charge, to help fill industry gaps in fundamental Victorian skill areas.
This scheme will commence in January 2019.
The TAFE courses included in this initiative will cover everything from accounting and automotive to hairdressing, construction and nursing.
Along with this, young tradies will also be given the option of staying at school for an extra year to graduate fully qualified and with their VCE – this new $50 million apprenticeship and traineeship program will be actioned at 100 public schools.
Students are expected to save between hundreds and thousands of dollars once the scheme commences.

will be put towards upgrading and modernising three TAFEs in Regional Victoria
New Education Centres:
– Precinct at Bendigo Kangan Insitute McCrae campus ($59.9m)
– Federation Training campus at Port of Sale in Gippsland (25m)
Upgrade:
– Federation Training’s Morwell campus ($35.5m)
– Federation Training campus at Port of Sale in Gippsland (25m)
Fee-Free Scheme TAFE Education Sectors
These selected in-demand sectors all embody essential areas of practical skill that are lacking in workers, and are in need of a significant boost in interest – with the growing increase of Victoria’s population, these sectors also continue to expand.

Aged Care & Disability Care Support
Hairdressing
Signage & Graphics
Food
Services
It has been noted that these fee free TAFE courses will be reviewed each year, to establish their ongoing importance to the Victorian community.
This is the biggest overhaul of TAFE, skills and training in Victoria’s history, it will make sure all Victorians can get the training they need for a good job, building our state.
