Course Overview
Start your career in social work and contribute to supporting individuals, families and groups to resolve their crisis, social, and living situations. Social Workers have the unique opportunity to support and advocate for people in crisis or life transition. You will make a real difference providing support, information and referral for your clients to improve their immediate safety and ongoing well-being.
The Bachelor of Social Work has been designed and developed by Acknowledge Education, a leading Institute of Higher Education (PRV 12146). AIPC delivers the course on behalf of Acknowledge Education.
The course is also approved for FEE-HELP, provisionally accredited with the Australian Association of Social Work, and is delivered mostly online with some residential schools at our higher education campuses.

What You'll Learn
- Direct practice skills for social work, supporting both the student’s development of these skills and the processes to assist with application.
- Key principles and practices of effective communication, specifically relevant for social work practitioners.
- Child and family wellbeing in the context of children’s rights, developmental needs and child protection from both an individual and systemic perspective.
- Specific legal contexts in social work practice concerning child protection, human rights, mental health, criminal law, domestic violence and mental health as well as the nature of multidisciplinary practice with lawyers.
- Social work in health care settings is explored with a focus on family violence, palliative care, hospital-based trauma work and vulnerable populations.
- The sociological perspectives, theoretical concepts, values and alternative approaches of social policy development. It also covers key models of social welfare service provision and social protection.

You learn externally online through the Institute’s Higher Education Learning Portal (HELP). Students studying online and distance education have unique needs and study requirements. You benefit from the following study support options:
Online study and support
Through the Higher Education Learning Portal (HELP), you can download your study materials, contact your lecturer, participate in discussion forums, complete and/or submit assessments, and access the Institute’s Online Library.
Study assistance line
You have unlimited use of the toll-free 1300 Study Assistance Line which puts you in contact with your Unit Leader who will answer all your study and assessment queries.
Practical demonstrations
Some units include practical demonstrations to enable you to practice and apply your theoretical knowledge in counselling situations. To complete your demonstration, you upload a recording of your skills and role plays through the Higher Education Learning Portal.
Entry Requirements
You can apply for entry into the Bachelor of Social Work if you have achieved one of the following:
- Completed Year 12 or equivalent, or
- Completion of at least a Diploma in any discipline, or
- Completion of at least a Certificate IV in a related discipline.
- You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for enrolment.
If English is your second language, minimum English Language requirements apply. Students must demonstrate Academic IELTS test scores with an overall score of 7.0 and a minimum of 7.0 in each band (or equivalent). Please contact AIPC if further information is required.
Work Placement
- 2 x 500 hours work placement
Recognition Of Prior Learning
Students progressing into the Bachelor of Social Work from the Institute’s Diploma of Community Services (Curriculum Code: CHC52021) will automatically receive credit for the following subjects:
- BSWINT103 Working with Diversity
- BSWINT104 Human Development across the Lifespan
- BSWPRP202 Skills for Social Work Practice 1
Students progressing into the Bachelor of Social Work from the Institute’s Diploma of Youth Work (Curriculum Code: AIPC CHC50421) will automatically receive credit for the following subjects:
- BSWINT103 Working with Diversity
- BSWSWP201 Child Wellbeing and Protection
The student’s record will be automatically updated, and a confirmation letter sent to the student. Students are not required to formally apply through the RPL process.
Professional Recognition
Acknowledge Education`s Bachelor of Social Work is provisionally accredited by the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).
The course is an entry qualification into the social work profession and has been determined to meet Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards. Students enrolling into a provisionally accredited course are eligible for membership of the AASW.
